DEFENSE BASICS:
In all incoming attacks, you will check at least the following things:
- types of tools used (wall tools or ranged, gate, moat), their quality (ordinary, ruby or armorer) and quantity.
- the bonuses of the commander (never forget to check -wall%, -gate% and -moat%) and the effect of gems and heroes (e.g. troop limits!)
- Composition of the army (number of ranged and melee soldiers)
- weaknesses of the attack (tools missing or less of 1 type). A gap in an attack set may be your defense set up solution!
- what you have (number and type of defenders, type of tools, castellan bonuses, number of soldiers you can have on wall, etc.)
- Based on attack analysis, you have different defense choices:
- You defend melee and your wall (you try to defend your wall at maximum): 100% melee defenders on walls + wall tools, like machi and high melee castellan with extra wall protection bonus if possible.
- You go ranged defense and try to increase the power of your ranged defenders at maximum with ranged tools, like arrow slits (melee - ranged defenders ratio on wall depends on attack, but general is 70% melee - 30% ranged), castellan balanced between ranged and melee.
- You may also try to win gate and / or moat with the combination of melee or ranged defense (e.g. castellans with extra gate / moat protection).
- !! Those who are definitelly not willing to make any improvements in defense can always make a castellan with high reduction % in fire caused by looting.
